GameTracks: Bit Brigade Play The Mega Man 2 Soundtrack Live

Since I mentioned it in my previous post, I thought I'd give a little love to the Mega Man 2 soundtrack in this edition of GameTracks. For my money, the soundtrack for MM2 is easily the best in the series, and the video below features an excellent live performance of the entire soundtrack by the Athens, GA-based band, Bit Brigade. One of the coolest aspects of Bit Brigade's performances is that they play video game soundtracks live while a speed runner plays the game in real time. It's a great gimmick and these cats have some serious musical (and gaming) chops.

Sound Test: BGM 10 - Tomorrow is Mine

Hi all! Been away for just a bit. Sorry to have kept you waiting... -_-

This selection in the Sound Test series (which again, is just songs from video games that I like in no particular order and with no real connection to anything) is from the recently released Bayonetta 2 for the WiiU. "Tomorrow is Mine" is the game's main theme song: a jaunty J-pop number that feels just perfect nestled in amidst the surreal strangeness and over-the top action that is this game. I confess that I have only played the demo version, though I do plan on springing for the disc soon.

What do you think? Sassy little number, right? Lyrical highlights for me include the lines:

You won't know what hit you 
When I spin around leave you 
In my dust then 
Bang bang!
Down down!

Points too for the snarky kiss-off, "Don't miss me too much!"; a cute reference to the game's emphasis on dodging attacks during combat.

I gotta get this game.

Super Guitar Bros.

Have a listen to the Super Guitar Bros.  They are an acoustic guitar duo that performs music from video games. Their first album is available for download from Bandcamp and features 10 tracks from a variety of console classics.  Also, check out their YouTube channel for some live renditions.



Personally I think they should have called themselves Super Guitario Bros. but that's just me.  Great stuff, guys!

This Guy Makes His Own Soundtrack to Street Fighter II

A Brazilian musician named Marcelo Carvalho recently released this highly amusing video in which he provides the entire soundtrack for a 2-round bout between Ryu and Sagat!  Besides playing the Guile stage music on guitar, he also does all the voices and sound effects.  Very cool and funny...




I'd recommend growing a mustache with that facial hair though. The chinstrap isn't totally working for you. I had one myself once. You have to stay right on top of those things or else you start to look homeless. Either way, I don't understand why metal guys always have to look tough all the time. I digress.

Sound Test: BGM 01 - Catherine "Thus Spoke Brooks"

Time for another edition of Sound Test!  This time I bring you one of my favorite tracks from the amazing action puzzler, Catherine.  This jazzy piano number is known as "Thus Spoke Brooks" in the U.S. version of the game, and as "Also Sprach Brooks" in the Japanese version.
