EVO 2012 - Street Fighter IV Championship

The Evolution Championship Series (EVO for short) is a video game tournament that focuses exclusively on fighting games. Every year the top players from all over the world assemble in Las Vegas and go head-to-head to determine who's best. This year's championship featured 6 games: Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Mortal Kombat, Soulcalibur V, The King of Fighters XIII and Street Fighter X Tekken.

If you've never seen world class players duke it out, then you HAVE to check this video out. It features the top 8 contenders as well as the grand final match for Super Street Fighter IV. It's an absolute delight to watch players of this skill level, and when you throw in a hyped up crowd and real-time announcing, the whole thing has the feel of a championship boxing match or MMA fight.

One thing I found interesting was the amount of diversity among the characters used by the competitors. You might think that you would see players at this level use only the most "powerful" characters and spam only the most "powerful" moves, but that's not the case at all. A wide variety of characters and playing styles makes for some highly entertaining matchups. Have a look!
